Muzan was a public intellectual and a radical organizer from Sudan. By training she was an engineer and researcher, with an interdisciplinary practice spanning engineering, socioeconomics, management of technology, and public policy. Her research and writing engaged industrial and economic policy, sustainable development, and the political dynamics shaping Sudan—alongside questions of social transformation, feminist perspectives, and local governance. She was the founding member and Managing Director of ISTinaD Center— standing for Innovation, Science, and Technology for people-centered Development. ISTinaD is a Sudan-based research institute established to produce evidence-based, actionable knowledge for the public and for policymakers. Muzan also served as a consultant on industrial policy in Sudan, during the last transitional period, with Sudan’s Industrial Research and Consultancy Center, one of the country’s parastatal research organizations.

Muzan Alneel—engineer, revolutionary, and organic intellectual—was a pulse of Sudan’s historic December 2018 uprising and its voice to the world. This posthumous collection charts her urgent vision for a people-centred transformation. Combining activist theory and on-the-ground praxis, Muzan dissects the class struggles and grassroots organizing of the Resistance Committees, provides a clear-eyed critique of counter-revolutionary forces, and outlines a bold framework for sustainable, democratic industrial policy.
Connecting the struggles of Sudan to Palestine and the Global South, her writings argue that genuine liberation must be built from the bottom up. A powerful repository of radical thought, this book is both a tribute to a brilliant thinker taken too soon and a vital resource for anyone committed to building a future defined by justice, freedom, and people’s power.
This posthumous collection brings together the essential writings of Muzan Alneel, a revolutionary intellectual, engineer, and activist whose life was cut tragically short at age 39. A cornerstone of Sudan’s 2018 December Revolution, Muzan embodied a unique blend of grassroots organizing and rigorous scholarly analysis. Her work traversed the critical intersections of revolution, development, and global solidarity.
The book’s first section dissects the political dynamics of Sudan’s uprising, providing crucial insights into the role of the Resistance Committees and the class struggles that define the country’s revolutionary path. It offers an unparalleled analysis of the “counter-revolution” and the challenges facing the transition to civilian rule.
