Blackness is<br>\na geographical location. Blackness is history.\nBlackness is a societal construct that identifies\n\u201cothers\u201d. It can alienate or bring together.\nBlackness is home. Blackness is being a foreigner.\nBlackness is racism. Blackness is jollof rice and\nJamaican patties. Blackness is police carding.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What does being Black mean to you? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a submission call for I AM BLACK, a\ncollection of poems that seeks to celebrate and\ntell stories that explore Blackness. The anthology\nwill be published in the fall by Daraja Press, an\nAfrocentric publisher based in Ottawa.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Editor<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The anthology will be edited by Esther Karin\nMngodo, an award-winning Tanzanian poet,\njournalist and editor who has lived in Canada\nsince 2017. She writes in English and Swahili,\nher native language.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Eligibility<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People of all ages, who identify as Black, who are\nCanadians or reside in Canada are encouraged to\nparticipate.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each participant can submit up to three poems.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Work submitted must not have been previously\npublished (excluding self-published work).\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no entry fee.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How to Enter <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please email your submission and a short\nbiography to: info@darajapress.com\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Date<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Submissions will be accepted from Saturday<br>\n18 April until midnight on Saturday 18 July 2020.\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a moment that made you realize that the colour of your skin has given you an identity.
