There were continuities between the two eras. \u201cCabral and Saro-Wiwa sit together in this transformative and unfinished space,\u201d wrote He- len Fallon, \u201casking questions that remain important in Ireland as in Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite this separation, they had much in common.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Both sought self-determination for their people. Both were clear that self-determination, not se- cession, was what they were fighting for.<\/p>\n<p>Self-determination and secession are often got confused and considered synonymous.
